Aussie Gold: The Top MMA Fighters Down Under

Posted on | 1 Comment

In a leadup to UFC 127 in Australia, FIGHT Magazine recently published an article on who they believe the top MMA prospects in Australia are. I believe the list isn’t who they think is necessarily the best at the moment, but more the fighters to look out for. Fortunately for myself, they’ve given me a mention for the Flyweight division which is at 125 lbs. Read more…

Injury Update

Posted on | Comments Off

Haven’t posted in a while. I’ve tried to be occupied with other stuff since I’m still out of action from training since December so haven’t really thought much to update. And not much to update with either. I did injure my rib cartilage back in December for the No Gi comp. Took about 6 weeks off, and came back to training. Was back at training for nearly 2 weeks and then I injured my rib cartilage again. In comparison to the first time which was probably just a tear in the cartilage, the following one felt like a full separation of the cartilage. i.e. the cartilage separating from the rib bone. Was very painful for many weeks. Even still sore now. Read more…

Oceania No Gi Championships 2010

Posted on | Comments Off

On Sunday myself and a number of other Lion’s Den team mates competed at the 1st Oceania No Gi Championships run by Events BJJ. Personally, I really enjoy the no gi competitions more than the gi ones, so when this came up, I made sure I got in.

My usual fighting weight is 61kg, however because of the limited number of entrants at my belt level, they had only two weight classes – Under 73kg and Over 73kg. This to me isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as I normally only get maybe one match at my normal weight class, so this ensured I had more people to compete against (if I win my matches of course). Movember – Raising Awareness For Men’s Health

Posted on | Comments Off

We’re approaching the month of November, and a lot of Aussies know that it is also Movember month. Movember aims to raise awareness and money for men’s health. Namely prostate cancer and mental illness. An example of a mental illness is depression. Depression in males is probably more of a concern than in females as males tend not to open up as easy as females and the depression can lead to worse things. Read more…

CFC 15 – Back on the Winner’s List

Posted on | Comments Off

So after a losing streak of fights which had all sorts of misfortunes leading up to them, I’m finally back with a win. And I have to say it feels great. The preparation for this fight was very good and it was the first time in a long time that i walked into the fight with hardly any nerves at all. I was feeling very relaxed. That can be attributed to the fact that my preparation was very good and all my training partners put in a lot of effort and time in getting me ready. Thanks guys. Read more…

CFC 15: Oct 8th – Gold Coast

Posted on | Comments Off

Been a delay making an official post on this, but I’ve been bit busy. However, I will be fighting this Friday on the Gold Coast at CFC 15 against Tyson “Kamikaze” Kroehn. This should be a very entertaining fight and I’m very excited to fight Tyson. Had a confirmation on the fight a while ago, so have had good preparation for it. What do I know about Tyson? I know he’s a good kid and growing into a very good fighter. I’m very sure there will be much respect in both directions come fight time. Read more…

The Mental Game…

Posted on | Comments Off

Been a while since my last update but, I’m Back… Those two words have a greater meaning now, and will so in the coming weeks. This post won’t dwell too much on the past, but I will say that there has been a lot going on in the last couple months. A lot of distractions away from the fighting game and when your head and heart isn’t in it, then it’s very difficult to focus on fighting. My last fight which was taken on a week’s notice was probably used more as a distraction from the distractions. Not a smart thing to do. But I did, and it’s a lesson learnt, like all things we do in life. Read more…

Late fight entry to TUFFA 7 – Campbelltown

So after a few people pulling out of TUFFA 7, I was offered to fight on the card a couple days ago which is set for this Saturday the 28th. It’s not exactly a lot of notice, but after some consideration and some extra negotiation, I’ve decided to take the fight against Nick Honstein from the USA, who is fighting out of Platinum Extreme gym.
